CHATTANOOGA CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
CONFERENCE CALL, DECEMBER 11, 2014
The December meeting of the Chattanooga Central High School Alumni Association was conducted
via a conference call on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at 6:00 PM, Eastern Standard Time . Those participating in the
call were Lucy Bottorff, James Walker, Bob Johnson, Finley King, Barney Ottinger, Pam Miller, Linda Hostetler and Judy Phillips.
President Lucy called the conference meeting to order at
6:04 PM. She recognized two new participants, Bob who is developing a new website for the association and Linda who
is the Family Career Community Leaders of America at teacher at Central. She then introduced the other callers to Linda.
The November minutes were corrected to state that Jerry
Summers was recognized as the Distinguished Alumnus of 2014 at Suwanee rather than inducted into their Sports Hall of Fame.
James moved to accept as corrected. Finley seconded. Minutes approved as corrected.
Treasurer Pam reported a balance of $17,946.10. Barney has a check for
$1,000.00 from the class of 1964 to be used as the association sees fit. Barney moved to accept the treasurer's
report as presented. James seconded. Motion passed.
James explained to the group that Linda's
class is the current version of the "old" Home Economics class and her students are special needs kids. They
have volunteered to help with the reception on December 27th for the current senior class and those who graduated this past
May. Finley stated that they do a great job and everyone was pleased to have their help. Everyone who can attend
was asked to be at the school at 10:00 AM to set up for the reception which begins at 11:00 AM. Lucy has only received
one RSVP but it is expected more will be forthcoming. Finley will call the senior class officers to have them put a
notice on Facebook and will also notify them by phone. Various participants will provide the refreshments, decorations,
paper products, door prizes, etc.
Bob reported on the new website. The address is: www.chsalumniassociation.ning.com.
The temporary password is "purple". The first sign in screen has the link "click here to join".
The new site was created after Barney contacted Bob and Butch Poole, current webmaster. Concern was expressed
that Butch needs to know we are not pushing him aside. He has done an outstanding job for us in the past and he did
work with Bob on the new site. His software would no longer support the current site going forward and he is ready to
give that responsibility to Bob. All of the information on the old site will be retained. The same server and software currently used by the "Central Connection" site is being used for our new site. Bob
explained how to go to each site or class and that each member will have their own page. Currently, the new site
is totally private but Bob can open up links to the public at a later date. The cost to create the site is $300.00 the
first year. If membership goes over 10,000, the cost will be $588.00 per year. Barney made the motion to move
forward in determining this as the official alumni site, to refund the $300.00 to Bob for the creation of the site and to
pay the $588.00 as it becomes necessary. James seconded. Motion passed. Bob will not charge a fee to maintain
the new website. He will send Pam his address so that she can send him a check. Bob asked us to send him any errors
or corrections. He will create a "private blog" of officers within the site. Barney stated we need to recognize
Butch in some way for his participation and immeasurable help all these years. He will find out when Butch will be in
Chattanooga and a presentation will be made at that time.
The scholarship fund received an additional
$120.00 from the sale of Jerry's book. Lucy stated that there will be a large anonymous contribution presented to the fund by the end of the year.
James reported he has received a $500.00
check from Chester Banks for the Luther Massengill scholarship fund. He asked that members be available to speak to
the media if needed concerning Luther's scholarship.
Barney reported there are no dates for
school functions established yet so no date has been selected for the golf tournament. He will have the date at the
January alumni meeting. It will probably coincide with Homecoming so that we can make sure the Sports Hall of Fame ceremony
is well attended.
No specifics yet on the new football coach, Gary Bloodsaw. James gave a brief bio
and thinks he is a good choice. He said the time is right and urged everyone to support his efforts. All agreed
to support him 100%. He will attend our January meeting.
James reported that the goal of $2,500.00
for the companion dog/"Soldier's Friend" project was met. There was a televised presentation at the school
on December 10, 2014.
Lucy is working on our 501(3)c status.
James is working on
raffle possibilities for us.
Pam stated that nothing else needs to be paid from our treasury before the end of the year.
James reported that Central's
boys and girls basketball teams are doing great!
The next meeting will be on Thursday, January 8,
2015, in the school library at 6:00 PM.
Lucy expressed her appreciation to everyone for all they are doing
for the association.
There being no further business, Pam moved to adjourned. Everyone on the call seconded. Meeting adjourned.
